SimHoops U
Class 101: Beginning Coaching
I. Welcome To The Game
SimHoops Pro is built to give owners both coaching and front-office control over a basketball franchise. The game is still evolving, but the goal has remained the same: give owners meaningful choices and enough depth to build winners over time.
Open the franchise application if you are not yet attached to a team and want to enter the league.
II. Logging In
You must be signed in to make roster changes, waiver claims, and other owner actions. Cookies and session variables are required for login to function correctly. While the database is down for maintenance or games are running, browsing remains available but write actions are disabled.
III. Changing Your Password
Your first login should be followed by a password change. You will need the current password once and the new password twice. If you forget it, use the password-recovery flow instead of creating a duplicate account.
IV. Signing Up For The Message Board
The legacy board has effectively been replaced by Discord as the main communication hub for owners. Commissioner announcements, league discussion, voting, questions, and general league chatter all flow through that channel.
V. About Player Attributes
Player ratings describe long-run quality, not exact single-game outcomes. A “Good+” or “Fair-” label means the player sits in the upper or lower quarter of that grade band.
| Skill / Rating | FG | 3PT | FT | Rebounding | Defense | Ball Handling |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Poor | 35-39% | 20-23% | 56-60% | 40-43% | 37-40% | 16-17% TO |
| Fair | 40-44% | 24-27% | 61-65% | 44-47% | 41-45% | 14-15% |
| Average | 45-48% | 28-31% | 66-70% | 48-52% | 46-50% | 12-13% |
| Good | 49-52% | 32-35% | 71-75% | 53-55% | 51-55% | 10-11% |
| Excellent | 53-56% | 36-39% | 76-80% | 56-58% | 56-60% | 8-9% |
| All-Pro | 57-60% | 40-43% | 81-85% | 59-60% | 61-65% | 6-7% |
Single-game performance still depends on matchups, injuries, minute load, home-court effects, and randomness. Season-long results are where ratings matter most.
VI. Adjusting Your Roster
The basic coaching model supports 8-, 9-, and 10-man rotations. For a 10-man setup, each starter and backup pair must account for 48 minutes at their slot, although fouls and injuries will change actual playing time.
Shot frequency, three-point tendency, and defensive assignments all affect outcomes. “Ball-hog” is a ratio, not an isolated command, so shot volume still depends on who shares the floor with that player.
VII. Checking Your Schedule And Scores
The schedule page is one of the core daily owner tools. It lists upcoming games, game previews, historical context, and projected matchup edges. The scores experience then lets you review quarter lines, top performances, box scores, and play-by-play once games are final.
